General Information
Situated in the Sabi Sand Wildtuin, adjacent to the Kruger National Park, Elephant Plains Game Lodge offers comfortable style and affordable luxury.

This family owned lodge accommodates a maximum of 24 guests, which ensures personal service and a warm, friendly atmosphere. The lodge is situated on the dry Manyeleti riverbed and overlooks a permanent waterhole.

The pool deck guarantees an excellent view of a variety of animals, coming from the plains to drink.

Getting here

By air
Eastgate (Hoedspruit), Skukuza and KMIA (Nelspruit) are all in close proximity, with daily scheduled flights from/to Johannesburg. Private chartered flights from Johannesburg, as well as any of the other nearby airports, can land on our gravel airstrip, which is well maintained. The approach is South to North at the following co-ordinates: S24°44'38.9" E 31°28'30.5". The airstrip is 1200m long. Please contact the lodge, should you require us to charter a plane for you.

By car
You are also welcome to drive to Elephant Plains yourself. Click on the link below for a detailed map and directions. We can also book road transfers from Johannesburg or any of the closer airports.

Entry
You need to enter through the Gowrie Gate, which is the only gate for entry into the northern section of Sabi Sand Wildtuin. Due to river crossings it is not possible to use any of the other gates in the Sabi Sand (Newington / Shaws Gates), or to travel through the reserve. The gate is open between 5:00 and 23:00. The Entrance Fee is R80.00 per vehicle.

Arrival
Your arrival at the lodge should be scheduled between 12H00-14H00 to be in time for lunch, as well as the afternoon game drive. On the day of your departure, we would appreciate it if you could vacate your room before 11H00.

Temperatures and seasons

Any time of the year is a good time to visit Elephant Plains! Spring and Summer are our rainy seasons and the bush is lush and green. Many animals give birth at this time of year and summer-visiting migrant bird species can also be seen.

Spring ( September to November)
  • Minimum:  +/- 18 Degrees Celsius
  • Maximum: +/- 30 Degrees Celsius
Summer ( December to February)
  • Minimum:  +/- 20 Degrees Celsius
  • Maximum: +/- 35 Degrees Celsius
Autumn ( March to May )

Autumn and Winter are dry and the bush is less dense, which makes game viewing easier. Animals visit the waterhole in front of the camp more often, due to the lack of abundant water in the bush.

  • Maximum: +/- 28 Degrees Celsius
Winter ( June to August)
  • Minimum: +/- 12 Degrees Celsius
  • Maximum: +/- 25 Degrees Celsius
What to bring :
  • Informal and comfortable clothes
  • A windbreaker or warm jacket for winter and night safaris.
  • A raincoat/waterproof for summer months.
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Swimming costume
  • Sun block & sunglasses
  • Binoculars and a camera / video camera
  • Please note that we are situated in a malaria area. We recommend that you consult your physician for the necessary precautions before travelling.
